MHS Jazz Ensemble I earns spot in state finals!

On Thu. 3/6, the MHS Jazz Ensemble I went to the MAJE district festival in Stoughton.  The group played well and earned both a Silver Medal and an invitation to the state finals to be held 3/29 in Framingham.  Nice job Jazz I!

Spring Is Always Busy

The weather is still quite frigid but spring really is just around the corner.  That means that there will be many music events to keep us all very busy. Some highlights from our spring include the MHS Chorus' collaboration with the Plymouth Philharmonic on March 29, the MHS spring concerts 4/2-3, All-Town Strings on 4/10, and our FBMS concerts and elementary concerts in May.  There are so many more though so please check out the Calendar page for all the details.

Now is the time to make sure that your children are signed up for our programs next year.  Course sign ups happen at MHS right now and in a few weeks at FBMS (including gr. 5 to 6.)  Many students report that their music class is often the highlight of their day and offers the change of pace that really helps with their other work.  Many also find their strongest friendships within our programs.

The biggest key to success in music at all levels is practice.  Practice doesn't have to be scary!  Just a little bit every (or most) day(s) is better than trying to do it all the day before a lesson, or worse, only at the lesson.  Please make sure you help you child find a suitable place and time in your home to play.

Another key for many students can be private lessons.  Sometimes lessons can help a struggling student who just needs some individual attention to get over a "hump" and sometimes lessons are the vehichle through which talented students unlock all their potential and have a deeper, richer experience.  Right now, all our students are getting ready for concerts, some are auditioning for honor groups, and still some should be thinking about auditioning for our upper level groups.  These are all good reasons to give lessons a try despite our hectic schedules.  All of our lesson studios are very busy.  All our private lesson teachers are looking to fill up their schedules.  If you want private lessons for your child (all levels), fill out a lesson form and get it to me.

Our department is as busy as ever at all levels.  Please check the Calendar page for updated information on all Music Dept. events.  Please contact me if you need anything.
